Education:

  • PhD in Chemistry, Miami University in Oxford, OH
  • BA in Chemistry with a minor in Biology, Florida International University

Dr. Roche Allred joined NSU in August 2022 after working as a Distinguished Postdoctoral Scholar at Florida International University (FIU). During her time at FIU her work focused on the development and evaluation of instructional materials to support students’ use and application of chemistry knowledge to explain biological phenomena.

Roche Allred received her PhD in Chemistry with a specialization in Chemistry Education Research and the Cognate area of Biochemistry from Miami University in Oxford, OH. Her work at Miami University focused on the investigation of students’ interpretations and understanding of the electronic structure of the atom with regards to probability and energy quantization. Prior to that, she completed her BA degree in Chemistry with a minor in Biology from Florida International University (FIU). During her time at FIU, she was a research assistant in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, where she synthesized conjugated nanoparticles for biomedical applications. After obtaining her BA, she taught middle school science for one year before attending graduate school. Her current research interest focuses on biochemistry students’ use and application of their chemistry and biology knowledge and how they integrate their knowledge to support their visual literacy skills.
