Program Scholarships
Biology Student Award
This fund was established by the Department of Biological Sciences Faculty to support and encourage scholarly excellence. The fund will be used to honor biology students involved in learning, research and service (research, presentations, community outreach, special learning opportunities, and other scholarly pursuits).
Award Amount: Typical award amounts will be between $250-$500
Deadline: Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis during the second week of each month. The deadline to submit the application is the first Friday of each month and must be submitted a minimum of 60 days in advance of the event.
Requirements:
- Students must complete a written application available from the Department of Biological Sciences website. The application is reviewed by the Department Chair in consultation with a committee of faculty. Link to application here.Link to application here
James and Nan Farquhar Performing and Visual Arts Endowed Scholarship (JFPG)
This scholarship is made possible by the late James and Nan Farquhar. It is available to students seeking a bachelor’s degree in dance, music, theatre, or art and design through the Department of Communication, Media, and the Arts. Students must be declared DCMA majors, and have a minimum of 2.0 cumulative GPA. It is talent-based; audition or portfolio review is required.

Deadline: May 1 for new and returning NSU students.

The Art of Peace Endowed Scholarship (AAPE)
The Art of Peace Scholarship was established to support research that explores the relationship between art and conflict resolution. The scholarship will be provided to one or more dissertation students each year pursuing a Ph.D. in Conflict Analysis and Resolution or a closely related area of study. The Art of Peace Scholarship was founded by Dr. Robin Cooper, a faculty member and proud alumna of Nova Southeastern University, in memory of Peter A. Berg and Nancy J. Jagel—two artists who lived their lives as peacebuilders.

- Students must have passed the qualifying exam to be eligible for this scholarship.
- The student’s dissertation proposal must reflect the incorporation of the arts in some form into their dissertation research—whether in the research focus or research methodology.

Applicants should submit a letter explaining how they meet the criteria for the scholarship, as well as a one-page summary of their dissertation research (proposed or in the process). Applications will be reviewed by a scholarship committee made up of NSU Halmos College of Arts and Sciences faculty members.
Students receiving the scholarship will be asked to present their dissertation research to their peers, either at the annual Conflict Analysis and Resolution Residential Institute or at a similar student-centered venue. Students may receive the scholarship multiple years in a row; however, they must reapply every year.
Dr. Florence Ross Scholarship for Global Peace (FRGP)
The fund was established to memorialize Dr. Florence Ross, a most distinguished HCAS alumna, for her commitment to the doctoral program in Conflict Analysis and Resolution. This scholarship is available to doctoral level students in the Conflict Analysis and Resolution program. A student may receive the scholarship multiple times as long as they continue to meet the criteria.

- Enrolled at the NSU Halmos College of Arts & Sciences
- Demonstrate financial need
- Demonstrate academic excellence through a GPA of 3.0
- Applicants should submit an essay, explaining how they meet the criteria for the scholarship.
- Applicants should show evidence of commitment to international conflict resolution. Preference shall be given to applicants who are members of international peacemaking groups and associations

James O. Elmore Fund
Jim Elmore, a federal mediator, and friend of DCRS died in 1998. This fund was established by DCRS as a lasting tribute to Jim. Students, faculty, and friends have contributed. This award is provided in the form of partial reimbursement for travel expenses and conference registrations, up to a certain amount depending on whether the conference is regional or national.

Professor Neil Katz's 50th Year Scholarship
The Professor Neil Katz’s 50th Year Scholarship was initiated in honor of Dr. Neil Katz’s 50+ years as a University Professor. This fund is specific to DCRS graduate students who are interested in pursuing “Scholarship of Engagement” (SOE) Projects. These SOE projects can be in the form of a workshop, webinar, research (including dissertation), creative activity, or service that applies conflict resolution principles and skills for the benefit of communities beyond the walls of academia. At its best, SOE projects incorporate the interests and desired outcomes of its community partners in the design and implementation of the activity, as well as making a significant impact on the community it serves. Students are eligible for an award one time.

Requirements:
- Enrolled in a graduate program in the Department of Conflict Resolution Studies
- Continuously registered each term for a minimum of 2 courses and in good academic standing
- Demonstrated academic excellence (GPA must be 3.5 or above)
- Submit a 500-word essay that 1) describes the project applicant hopes to carry out; 2) explains how it follows Scholarship of Engagement guidelines; and 3) includes a 1 or 2 paragraph background statement on themselves and their academic interests

Stolzenberg-Doan Scholarship (SDSF)
This scholarship is made possible by Dr. James Doan in memory of his grandparents, and his mother, to further the development of International Studies and to honor their commitment to developing knowledge of the languages, history, and cultures of other nations. It is available to undergraduate full-time students to support the cost of travel study courses offered through NSU or summer, semester, or academic year study abroad programs offered through accredited institutions. Up to three awards each semester based on available funds.
Award Amount: $500 (one-time payment)
Deadline: For winter travel the deadline is October 1 and for summer/fall travel the deadline is February 15
Requirements:
- Available to qualified undergraduate full-time students to support the cost of travel study courses offered through NSU
- Minimum 2.5 GPA
- Funds will be disbursed after students show successful completion of approved travel study or study abroad program
- Submit a 500-word essay with application and documentation indicating the travel study or study abroad program you plan to participate in
- Students may apply in more than one year

Scholarship Application
Priority is given based on the following hierarchy: 1) International Studies Majors or Modern Languages Majors, 2) Students in NSU's Halmos College of Arts and Sciences Dept. of Humanities and Politics, 3) Undergraduate students in the NSU Halmos College of Arts and Sciences, and 4) All other undergraduate students.
Guy Harvey Endowed Scholarship - Graduate (OGHE)
The Guy Harvey Scholarship is for graduate students who are enrolled full-time and who are conducting research related to the biology, ecology, habitat, or management of fish in the marine environment.

- Graduate (M.S. or Ph.D.) students who are, or will be, both enrolled in marine science graduate degree programs
- Associated with the OC NSU Guy Harvey Research Institute
- Academic merit will be determined by the Director of the OC NSU Guy Harvey Research Institute, in consultation with the OC Director of Graduate Programs

NSU Fishing Tournament Scholarship
The Nova Southeastern University Fishing Tournament Scholarship is a competitive scholarship awarded to high-achieving graduate students at NSU’s Halmos College of Arts and Sciences. All recipients are engaged in active research related to marine organisms, ecosystems, health, and conservation.
Award Amount: Varies, up to $25,000 and can be used as a salary or towards tuition.

- Graduate (M.S. or Ph.D.) students who are, or will be, both enrolled in marine science graduate degree programs
