Become a Professional Dancer, Choreographer or Teacher
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of dancers and choreographers is projected to grow 6 percent from 2019 to 2029, which is faster than the average for all occupations. As an NSU Dance major, you’ll study dance as an art form from a variety of perspectives—historical, cultural, technical and creative—and acquire valuable critical thinking and analytical skills that will translate to a wide range of careers. By understanding how art relates to global culture, entertainment, fitness and education, you’ll be able to pursue roles as a professional dancer, choreographer, occupational therapist, dance educator, studio owner, artistic director, company manager and more.
During your undergraduate studies, you’ll gain real world experience. As a member of the NSU Dance ensemble you’ll have a number of opportunities to perform, while masterclasses and visiting professionals inspire you to explore new modes of communication through movement. You’ll also have a chance to participate in the annual Season of the Arts to perform original choreography in a variety of styles.
Additionally, NSU students enjoy exciting internships. Some companies and organizations that students have interned at in the past include The Walt Disney Company, Broward College, Coral Reef High School, Alma Dance Theatre, Dance Now! Miami and Augusto Soledade Brazz Dance Theatre.
