As sea turtles mature into adults, sea turtles often change what they eat. For example, green sea turtles switch from being omnivores, eating basically anything that can fit in their mouth, to being rather strict herbivores, eating almost exclusively seagrass.

With this change in diet, adult turtles tend to find suitable foraging grounds, where we think they live for the majority of the rest of their lives.

ADULT FACTS

  • Develop a specialized diet based on species
  • Use Earth’s magnetic field to navigate through the oceans
  • Females typically nest every 2-3 years
  • Sea turtles are similar to humans, taking anywhere from about to mature, depending on the species.
